Bryan Ansell collection: Warlock of Firetop Mountain miniatures

Just a quickie from me today. Yesterday, James of the Realm of Chaos 80s blog posted the Metal Mayhem articles from the now defunct Warlock magazine. Within these articles could be seen the figures from the 1980s Warlock of Firetop Mountain range by Citadel. James posed the question as to whether the figures illustrated were the original plastics or metal counterparts.

Well, not only can I confirm they are plastic, but they now reside in Bryan Ansell's collection:

Nicely painted, I'm sure you will agree.

  1. Very nicely painted. What's going on with the bases though Steve? Slottas inserted into slottas?

    1. They come on little round integral bases, you can see them raised above the slotta surface here.

  2. These look very much like some mini's that caused a slight debate at my Bother's place the other night during an OGRE Dungeon Bash.

    What say thee Erny?

    1. Yep I remembered the following day where they were from I have mistakenly said they were Dungeon quest figures.

I am missing the Barbarian though.

    2. Also worth mentioning they were in the cabinets at BOTL14 so people may have seen these in the plastic without realizing.

  3. Warlock Magazine...was that the Fighting Fantasy magazine that was around in the mid '80s? I have one issue of it and I loved it! Never found or have ever seen another. How many issues did if run for?

    1. A mysterious 13 issues were produced! A timely post Steve, and its great t see these figures in more detail. Plastic eh? Well, it just goes to show how good the plastic work was on these early models, though the elf looks like he has had a an accident with the fake tan!

  4. Yes timely given recent events. The new range being developed by Damien Sparkes looked pretty special at the day in London recently
