I was given the heads-up on this site recently:
http://www.fantasyartoriginals.com/ The site has 24 - yes 24 - pieces of art by John Blanche for sale. Many of the paintings are from the 1970s, and there is original artwork from the
Tolkien Bestiary,
Ratspike, and
The Prince and the Woodcutter for sale. The owner has given me permission to reproduce some of the images for sale here. There is a contact form on the site if you wish to purchase any, but it goes without saying: "serious offers please!"
Here is a small selection:
|
The Battle of Five Armies. Published in-Ratspike by GW Books and Tolkien Bestiary by Mitchell Beazley Publishers and The Hobbit by J R R Tolkien
|
|
Downfall of Numenor. A scene by John Blanche from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Published in Tolkien Bestiary Mitchell, Beazley Publishers.
|
|
Untitled. In comic format. “Surreal narrative that conjures strange views”, John Blanche 2012
|
|
The Dance of the Witches. Published in The Prince and the Woodcutter by Dragon’s World Limited 1979.

Seriously, it's gonna take some time for my lower jaw to come back in its place.
ReplyDeleteI just can't believe such beauties are for sell.
If I were to win the lottery, you can be sure you would not find any fancy car in my garage or a swimming-pool in my backyard, you would most certainly find these kinds of pearls displayed on the wall or even in a gallery for the sake of all who love fantasy
Since a young age I've poured over the Woodcutter book and the pictures in the Tolkien bestiary for many many hours. It's great to see them shown online.
ReplyDeleteBut what makes you say they are for sale? I don't see any mention of it on the site. Do you have special info? In the comments form/contact page it just says:
"This website showcases a private collection of fantasy art originals by John Blanche. If you have any information you can share about this great work, including scene titles, character names, or any back-stories, we’d love to hear from you so we can fill in the blanks*.
Please also contact us if you have any questions about any of our John Blanche fantasy art originals*.
*Comments and or questions may be published (anonymously) at our discretion. We will not use your personal information for any other purpose except in relation to this website."
I was alerted to the fact they would be for sale and made contact via the web page and found out they are indeed for sale. Serious offers only!
