With some models in a few of the ranges, most notably the C36 Hobgoblins, Citadel did convert some solid based pre-slotta models into slotta based ones. So it is possible to have a pre-Slotta and Slotta version of the same model, which I do of several of the C36 Hobgoblins. I think a lot of the recasts that do appear have tended to come from a very limited number of sources. GW have successfully closed down a couple of American recasters but its the stuff coming from the Eastern block etc thats the most suspicious. I am not aware of a huge export drive to Russia for instance. So how would multiple rare figures surface there? So as you say provenance and common sense. I have handled recasts and they are usually made of very soft metal in my experience.
Thankfully I still believe they are quite rare compared to the number of genuine castings in existence.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17590879762110987642noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129512964717024375.post-14516743889119766712014-08-22T15:33:48.536+01:002014-08-22T15:33:48.536+01:00You've missed off talc, which has no business ...You've missed off talc, which has no business being anywhere a figure which is not brand new.Juraluminhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224315223586562178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129512964717024375.post-69788779373678091042014-08-22T15:28:53.040+01:002014-08-22T15:28:53.040+01:00That would be the metal cooling too quickly. That would be the metal cooling too quickly.Juraluminhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07224315223586562178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129512964717024375.post-81027131623817584752014-08-22T11:31:20.486+01:002014-08-22T11:31:20.486+01:00I used to cast a lot of Prince August stuff when I...I used to cast a lot of Prince August stuff when I was younger. I do have in my possession some models that were bought from mail order after the change to white metal and I can tell you though they 're 100% official, anyone (me first) would be tempted to take them for recasts (shiny metal, "wrong" feel, low res details, double mould lines...).
I also know many people who bought multiple models from this same service (multiple palanquins or multiple Juggernauts) and they therefore have multiple examples of official releases that "look" suspicious too.

Anyway, I really think it is a good and wise thing to provide solid explanations as you did to avoid people lighting torches and taking their forks in the streets evrey now and then...

ThanksAsslessmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09475252828835332056noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129512964717024375.post-28915277889902555172014-08-21T20:00:10.808+01:002014-08-21T20:00:10.808+01:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01765617824618908546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129512964717024375.post-64648379018879367452014-08-21T19:04:38.942+01:002014-08-21T19:04:38.942+01:00an excellent article Stevean excellent article Steve.https://www.blogger.com/profile/11693597130764711694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129512964717024375.post-14308766134382748702014-08-21T19:02:19.855+01:002014-08-21T19:02:19.855+01:00It takes a big man to admit that James! :-)It takes a big man to admit that James! :-)Steve Caseyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16970745876897456734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129512964717024375.post-7689367621811032942014-08-21T18:07:00.176+01:002014-08-21T18:07:00.176+01:00Great post!Great post!myincublisshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10821486616924046474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5129512964717024375.post-74384768460940095832014-08-21T18:05:46.065+01:002014-08-21T18:05:46.065+01:00A seminal post and a very informative one.
